Food Services Worker/ Cook

The Food Services Worker will prepare, cook and serve food for the residents of the Emergency Lodge Homeless Shelter; clean the kitchen, dining room and food service areas according to sanitation and safety standards.

About the role:



  • Prepare and cook meals according to established menus
  • Prepare bag breakfasts and lunches
  • Prepare and save hot dinners for clients as requested by the Case Management staff
  • Ensure proper rotation of food inventory and dispose of outdated foods
  • Wash, cut, and prepare foods designated for cooking
  • Prepare and serve beverages
  • Maintain sanitation, health and safety standards in work areas
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Walk-In Cooler, Freezer and Dry Goods Store Room
  • Substitute for or assist other Food Service Worker/Cooks during emergencies, rush periods or absences
  • Conduct regular inventory of food and food service supplies and report any needs to the Food Services Supervisor
  • Assist with the maintenance of all kitchen equipment and communicate equipment needs to the Food Services Supervisor
  • Accept and store daily deliveries
  • Interact with residents and staff in a friendly and professional manner
  • Work with Case Management staff to ensure that special dietary needs of residents are met
  • Understand and comply with all safety, sanitation and food handling standards
  • Understand and comply with The Salvation Army's Mission Statement
  • Comply with all Salvation Army policy and procedures.


Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: One year experience in food services, institutional cooking or related experience

-Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities

Certifications: Serve Safe Certification; valid Wisconsin Driver's license with clearance to drive from The Salvation Army's insurance carrier preferred.
