General Summary of Position
MedStar Health at Washington Hospital Center, the largest hospital in Washington, DC, and a Level 1 trauma center, is home to a dedicated Hearing and Speech Center. Our team collaborates closely with the ENT/Otology department to provide exceptional care to a diverse adult outpatient population. We are seeking an experienced clinical audiologistto join our team. This role involves diagnosing, treating, and counseling patients with hearing and vestibular disorders. Proficiency in hearing aids and vestibular testing is essential, and experience with VNG, cochlear implants and bone conduction devices is strongly preferred. - Confers andprovidesa full range of diagnostic audiology and vestibular evaluations on in- and out-patients on-site and at designated off-site locations including infant hearing screening on newborns. Uses objective test measures in theICU (Intensive Care Unit)andparticipatesin audiology monitoring in the OR as assigned. Evaluates patient needs for hearing aid amplification. Selects,fits,and dispenses hearing devices. Teaches the use and care of hearing aids. Conducts follow-up phone calls and schedules visits for adjustments and to address any problems.
- Counselspatientsregardingtest results and makesappropriate recommendations.Providesfamily counseling on aspects of hearing and balance disorders.Provides in-services to nursing staff and medical/ENT residents as the audiologist.Serves as resource/representative for audiologists in the hospital. Completes progress notes and consultation summaries in medical records.Providesreports to referral sources. Providesappropriate speech-languagereferrals asrequired.
- Providesinternal hearing aid repairs where possible. Prepares and processes other repairs to be completed by theappropriatemanufacturer. Completesand ensures accuracy of all required documentation for patient billing.
- Assistsin the interview/selectionof audiology staff as requested by the department head. Orients new Audiologist I staff to the hospital and department policies and procedures.Providesinput to the director on performance evaluations for audiology staff. Serves as the staff resource audiologist for staff, physicians, patients, and family members for the cochlear implant program and other special auditory programs that may be implemented.
- Collaborates with the department head in writing and formulating audiology policies and procedures. Make recommendationsregardingcapital budget expenditures.Providesguidance to and serves as a professional resource for graduate students completing a clinical practicum. Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in the field by readingappropriate books, journals, and other literature, and by attending relatedseminars andconferences. Communicates relevant information to audiology staff.Facilitates audiology staff meetings asrequested.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Audiology.
- Licensure as an Audiologist in Maryland or the District of Columbia within 90 Days
- Certification by the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
- 2 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience preferred.
