Position Description

Performs work to assist in the organization and implementation of projects and programs. Responsibilities include activities which require knowledge of departmental procedures. Employee performance is based upon a review of completed work and overall results obtained.

About the Department and/or College

The Museum is committed to serving our diverse community, through a range of exhibitions and public programming.

Major/Essential Functions

The Museum supports full-time positions for graduate-level students and recent graduates of master's degree programs who intend to pursue careers in museums and heritage management. The internship program provides practical training and experience in museum and heritage standards and best practices at an American Association of Museums accredited large university museum. Graduate interns participate in all aspects of museum or heritage activities associated with the assigned division, such as collections, administration, exhibits, and education

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent. No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

The intern will participate in project management, preventative conservation and installation experience across a variety of collections from hard sciences through to the humanities, exhibition conceptualization with hands-on installation experience, graphic design and registration.

Occasional Duties


  • The intern will be assigned duties for which they are responsible. The Exhibits Division is responsible for the generation, installation, and maintenance of 10-15 exhibitions each year.
  • The intern will participate in project management, preventative conservation and installation experience across a variety of collections from hard sciences through to the humanities, exhibition conceptualization with hands-on installation experience, graphic design and registration.
  • The position is a regularly scheduled position with hours of 8 - 5, Monday through Friday with some evening and weekends required.
