The Role

The Director of Indirect Procurement is responsible for leading a high performing team with responsibility for the strategic relationship with suppliers and partners within the Indirect spend categories. Accountable for cost/quality/service, supplier controls, development of commodity strategies, contract negotiations, productivity initiatives, supplier selection/bid processes and sourcing projects. Provides guidance and oversight to the team and leads/develops team members in times of ambiguity. The Director will lead the global indirect procurement council to foster collaboration across the regions, leveraging best practices and knowledge sharing. Responsible for leadership of the team, including alignment to corporate goals, tracking team performance, ensuring compliance with corporate policies, optimizing processes and procedures and problem resolution with vendors.

LOCATION: Must be based in the East Coast Time Zone. Rochester, NY or Raritan, NJ preferred.

The Responsibilities
  • Lead global indirect procurement strategy and teams to reduce costs, mitigate risks and improve spend compliance.

  • Guide cross-functional teams at the senior leadership level through short-term and long-term sourcing strategies and communicate with business partners on an ongoing basis regarding supply needs and challenges.

  • Drive improvement across company's indirect spend in terms of service levels and cost savings. Identify and track savings initiatives.

  • Manage, develop, and coach your team fostering a learning environment to grow their capabilities to help your team operate at peak performance, with an emphasis on innovation, collaboration, and accountability. Provide mentorship and maintain high morale.

  • Navigate global interactions with colleagues and direct reports with cultural awareness and respect.

  • Lead the development and execution of commodity strategies, in conjunction with cross-functional stakeholders across the company

  • Participates in supplier selection, negotiation efforts

  • Maintains and distributes market intelligence, stays abreast of the changing supply base & new technologies, and effectively interfaces with cross-functional business partners

  • Builds and maintains a multi-functional network of stakeholders (upstream, downstream, and peer) to ensure that any strategy supports the needs of the business, and to facilitate initial buy-in, ongoing engagement, and support for execution of the global strategy at all levels

  • Possesses sourcing knowledge of various commodities including but not limited to, IT, HR, MRO, Real Estate, Capital, Facilities, Contingent Labor

  • Writes/reviews and provides recommendations on contracts, negotiations, redlines, etc. with internal and external stakeholders

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

The Individual Education and Experience
  • BA / BS degree in business administration, supply chain, engineering or related field required

  • MS/MBA degree preferred

  • 10+ years' combined experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, and Materials Management required

  • 8+ years' experience of Indirect Procurement experience required

  • Minimum of 5 years' procurement management experience preferred

Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of multiple commodities (IT, HR, MRO, Real Estate, Capital, Facilities, Contingent Labor, etc.) required

  • Effective negotiating methods and complex contract writing required

  • General purchase terms and conditions required

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, capable of quickly building trusting relationships, collaborating effectively cross-functionally, and influencing and guiding stakeholders in decision making.

  • Eager to proactively identify, develop, and implement process improvements to achieve efficiencies.

  • Swiftly assesses risk, analyze complex situation, and determine next course of action.

  • Proficient with SAP, Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

INTERACTIONS:
  • External Partners - Suppliers: Negotiate contracts, supplier business meetings, resolve disputes when required.

  • Internal Partners - Finance: R&D, Human Resources, IT, Marketing, Communications, Manufacturing

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment is representative of both an office and manufacturing setting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

No strenuous physical activity. General office environment with some time spent in warehouse and manufacturing areas. Some travel required depending on assigned project(s), up to 30%. Flexible work hours required to meet project deadlines.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $128,000.00 - $218,000.00 annually. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time), and paid Holidays. All benefits are non-contractual, and QuidelOrtho may amend, terminate, or enhance the benefits provided, as it deems appropriate.
