Prairie Database and Monitoring Technician

Dates: Start as soon as possible. The position is 18 months with opportunities for extension.

Location: The primary location will be on the University of Minnesota Saint Paul Campus. The successful candidate will be housed at the Bee Lab. Will require travel to interact with the United States Wildlife Refuges. This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities:
(50%) Work with field staff of the Midwest National Wildlife Refuge system (NWRS) to develop the Prairie Reconstruction Initiative Database (PRI). This will include traveling to parts of Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin to collaborate with refuge staff, access prairie reconstruction files, and enter data into the PRI database.

(25%) Work with field staff of the Midwest National Wildlife Refuge system to populate the Management Actions Tracking System (MATS) database with historic data from defunct geodatabases and/or paper files.

(25%) Assist the University of Minnesota and National Wildlife Refuge Biologist in monitoring efforts related to both prairie vegetation and bees.

Required Qualifications:
* Valid US driver's license and legally able to work in the US.
* A B.S. in Entomology, Environmental Science, Botany, Conservation Biology, Ecology, a related field or equivalent work experience or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years.
* Experience with scientific data collection
* Experience with ESRI products and tools, such as ArcPro, Survey123, and FieldMaps
* Experience with in-field GIS tools
* Dependability, punctuality, and ability to complete high-quality work with minimal supervision
* Experience using or managing large-scale datasets

Preferred Qualifications
* MS or technical certificate in Entomology, Environmental Science, Botany, Conservation Biology,
Ecology or a GIS related field
* Intermediate programming skills in R and/or Python
* Experience with bumble bee ID and survey methods.
* Working with or managing insect collections
