Responsibilities

We are seeking a Behavioral Health LPN, also referred to as a Acute Psych LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) in our beautifully renovated 30-bed unit that provides a welcoming, safe, supportive environment where patients receive care based on their individualized needs at Saint John Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare. The Behavioral Health LPN (SBHU Licensed Practical Nurse), or Acute Psych LPN, plays a critical role in a hospital setting by assessing mental health needs, developing nursing plans, administering psychiatric medication, and offering therapy and counseling. These nurses work closely with patients to manage their conditions and improve their mental health.

Shift's Available: Days

Employment Type: Full Time

Sign-on Bonus: $10,000 - 2 year commitment paid out every 90 days

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

  • Patient Assessment: Conduct initial assessments to determine mental health needs and establish a nursing diagnosis. This includes evaluating patients' mental health status and conditions based on medical history, symptoms, and behavioral observations.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop individualized care plans with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Medication Management: Administer medications as prescribed and monitor patients for side effects and responses to these medications.
  • Therapeutic Care: Provide restorative care to patients, including individual and group therapy sessions. This may involve various therapeutic techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), or other modalities.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions and treatment plans, including coping strategies, self-care techniques, and medication compliance.
  • Crisis Intervention: Respond to crises, using de-escalation techniques to manage behavioral emergencies and ensure patient safety.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.


Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Current and valid state license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Psychiatric Technician.
2. Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
3. IV certification within 90 days of hire
