Quest Diagnostics (NYSE: DGX) is seeking a Scientist to work on assay and process improvement at our Clinical Mass Spectrometry laboratory based in San Juan Capistrano, CA. This professional plans, prepares, conducts and records complex bench level experiments while contributing ideas for new process development within our markets.


  • Develops, plans, conducts and records results from complex experiments within a specific product or technology area.
  • Performs laboratory experiments following defined protocols and company procedures.
  • Reports status of assigned projects through the preparation of detailed reports and documentation that summarize experiment results.
  • Works within established parameters on individual assignments, on project teams for longer-term projects.
  • Identifies problems, investigates alternatives and recommends possible courses of action.
  • Effectively utilizes and applies advanced methods or technologies.
  • Prepares reports and analysis of results as related to product/process development improvement.

Required Work Experience:

  • Requires at least 6 (six) years of extensive industrial experience and significant demonstration of capabilities for a candidate with a Bachelor's degree or at least 4 (four) years of relevant industrial experience with a Master's degree, or a Ph.D. with thesis.

Preferred Work Experience:

  • Knowledge of sample preparation techniques for the analysis of both proteins and peptides out of biological fluids (e.g. plasma/serum, CSF, urine). Such techniques include, but are not limited to: protein precipitation; protein digestion; solid-phase extraction; immunoprecipitation and protein fractionation
  • Experience with developing quantitative mass spectrometry methods on triple-quadrupole and high resolution/accurate mass instruments
  • A basic knowledge of HPLC
  • Experience with proteomics methodologies
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Python and R is preferred.
  • California clinic chemist scientist license is a plus.
