The Salvation Army Veterans Residence located in St. Louis, Missouri, is looking for a Housing Specialist. This position assists and advocates for homeless clients seeking permanent housing. Specialize in locating and maintaining housing resources and assist with clients in securing safe, affordable, housing for the TIP program. Provide community resource information and tacking the housing, employment and income status to client who have moved into TIP housing program. Ensure readiness for the client to take over the leasing agreement for self-sufficient living within 6-month plan.

This is a full-time exempt position, 40 hours per week, with starting pay of $50,000 Annually.

Essential Functions



  1. Meet with clients moving into TIP housing and initiating professional working relationship with TIP case manager on home visits.
  2. Complete all documentation, reports, etc. using professional language for the field of practice.
  3. Complete wellness checks for clients to ensure a safe environment.
  4. Provide ongoing resource information on affordable housing in the St. Louis region.
  5. Complete and provide daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and bi-annual outcome measurements and report progress to supervisor.
  6. Organize and update client files utilizing professionally established practices for file maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in human service/social service field or related area plus one years of work experience is required. Experience working with recovering substance abusers and veterans is a plus. Combination of education and work experience will be considered. Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or Recognized Associate Substance Abuse Counselor (RASAC) or LPC or LCSW is a plus. Requires some computer word processing, spreadsheet and email experience. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; understanding of the homeless and chemically dependent veteran population. Must be a team player, a self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Must demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment.

Physical and Working Conditions

Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, etc. Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. There will be times the individual is frequently in and out of vehicles.
