Description

Reporting to the Senior Manager of the Fuel Development program, you will assist with hands-on research relevant to the development nuclear fuel fabrication methods, materials characterization, and in radiological facilities at the Materials and Fuels Complex.


This includes assimilation, interpretation, and reporting of data during the course of research activities. Your projects may vary based on your education level and experience.

Some of the projects may include:




  • Alloying and casting uranium-alloys.



  • Employ advanced manufacturing techniques for nuclear fuel development such as SPS/EFAS and 3D-printing.



  • Powder metallurgy techniques for fabrication of ceramic fuels and composite fuels



  • Sample preparation and characterization, using methods such as SEM, XRD, BET, and optical microscopy.



  • Weld development for assembly experiments for irradiation testing


  • Data analysis and reporting associated with research activities.


As part of your paid summer internship you provide support for formal report preparation.

This team works a 4x10 schedule and works onsite at the Materials and Fuels Complex near Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Qualifications


  • Undergraduate student enrolled full time at an accredited college/university studying materials science, related engineering (nuclear, chemical, mechanical), or closely related field.



  • A minimum overall 3.0 GPA




  • Authorization to work in the U.S. (including CPT and OPT)

Compensation and Benefits:



  • Undergraduate Internships ($25.65/hour - $30.70/hour)
  • Masters Internships and PhD Internships Pre-Candidacy ($31.75/hour - $34.06/hour)
  • PhD Internships Post-Candidacy ($33.75/hour - $36.06/hour)
  • Eligible interns are provided paid holiday time off, and many of our internships offer travel reimbursements.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on degree field and level of education.
