We are hiring two Research Assistant IIs. These are full time positions, generally Monday through Friday. The positions are grant funded - one position ending 10/31/26 and the second position ending 1/31/27.

In addition to bringing the latest treatments to our patients, the knowledge gained from these research studies advances the quality of care for people around the world.The Research Assistant II will join the team at the Shiley Center for Orthopaedic Research and Education (SCORE). SCORE's physicians and scientists study the effects of traumatic injuries and sports activities to determine how well joint replacement and reconstruction techniques or the use of experimental prostheses can restore joint mechanics and range of motion. To be successful, the Research Assistant must be flexible to adjust to changing priorities and eager to learn.

The Research Assistant II will:



  • Perform or assist in bench lab experiments involving biomechanical, histologic, cartilage and stem cell research.
  • Contribute to the analysis of cartilage, related tissues and cell cultures, human joints and implants.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:



  • Bachelor's degree required. Degree field preferred in engineering, bioengineering, biology, physiology, chemistry, or equivalent.
  • Experience in laboratory work in one of the following areas: Tissue dissection and harvesting, fixture design, engineering design, cell and tissue culture techniques (PCR, ELISA and Western Blotting), gene activation studies, processing and staining routine histologic specimens, radioisotope update studies, immunohistochemical studies, confocal laser microscopy.
  • Lab bench work mechanical skills: Comfortable using orthopaedic equipment such as osteotomes, saws, drills, and power equipment. Comfortable using equipment such as drill-press, lathe, and milling maching.
  • Computer skills: Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Some programming experience.
  • Writing skills: Experience in preparing scientific abstracts, posters, and presentations and writing manuscripts.


Preferred:



  • Experience with animal research
