Job Description Summary:

Aon is looking for a Senior Investment Actuary within Aon's Delegated Investment Operations Team.

The investment actuary plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial monitoring of Aon OCIO's pension plans for both US and Canada. Key responsibilities include US and Canadian pension liability estimation, asset and liability monitoring, and investment strategy implementation support for Aon's OCIO clients.

Aon Investments is an investment management firm. This opportunity is a pension actuarial role requiring pension actuarial experience to understand the liability calculations and communicate the valuation results to both actuarial and investment consultants. This position will provide the exposures to the investment strategy, asset reconciliation and hedging analytics on Aon's trading and reporting systems. A credentialed actuary with a passion about the investment, operations and database management will be ideal.

Key Responsibilities:

Actuarial Valuations:

  • Conduct annual valuations of pension plans in Aon's Retirement Risk Analyzer to assess their funded status and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Analyze and validate the liability gain or loss for ad-hoc activities like the following:
  • Assumption changes
  • Plan changes
  • Mergers and spinoffs
  • Annuity purchase/retiree lift out
  • Lump sum window
  • Plan termination
  • Sign off the pension liability updates for Aon's Delegated Investment Operations Team

Asset-Liability Monitoring:

  • Monitor the OCIO pension plan's asset investments and liabilities to ensure alignments with the plan's goals and risk tolerance
  • Verify the funding and hedging status changes and the investment target adjustments

Investment Strategy Implementation:

  • Implement the investment policies and asset allocation targets into the OCIO monitoring platform to assist the Portfolio Managers (PM) in optimizing returns while managing risks within the pension fund

Cross-Team Collaboration:

  • Lead the communication between investment and actuarial consultants on liability valuation and monitoring for OCIO plans
  • Manage the Risk Analyzer onboarding and reporting with the US and Canadian investment operations teams
  • Work with Portfolio Manager (PM) team on trading activities and hedging analytics when necessary
  • Be a subject matter expert for Client Team on liability attribution and general plan status questions in different reporting platforms
  • Work with the lead actuary and technology teams to develop new features and models in different systems

Project Management:

  • Manage the annual liability valuation updates in Risk Analyzer for OCIO plans
  • Coordinate with the analyst team and the actuarial team on project timing and deliverables
  • Proactively manage the pension settlement activities and their monitoring adjustments in Risk Analyzer

Operations:

  • Continue to optimize the work process and follow the best practice
  • Continue to push through process automation via various ways and tools
  • Assist with training of junior team members

Communication:

  • Clearly communicate findings, recommendations, and complex actuarial concepts to actuarial and non-actuarial teams

Idea Experience:

  • 5+ years of pension actuarial experience
  • ASA or EA is required
  • Deep understanding of actuarial principles and pension plan regulations
  • Excellent mathematical skills to perform complex calculations and modeling
  • Canadian or international pension experience a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel/VBA/macro
  • Eagle Pace, Bloomberg, Power BI, database experience a plus
  • Intellectual curiosity, ideas, and passion for continued process improvement to drive profit and growth potential

Pay Transparency Laws:

The salary range for this position intended for U.S. applicants is $106,000 to $149,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location. The actual salary may vary for applicants in a different geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon's annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
