Job Summary

The Career Ambassadors (CAs) in Career Services are a diverse group of undergraduate students at Illinois State University who assist their peers in building career development and career readiness skills. These students are leaders who are passionate about developing themselves while also assisting others on their journey. In addition to reviewing covers letters, resumes, and LinkedIn profiles, the CAs lead presentations to equip students with tools that can be used to enhance their skills, are an essential part of the Career Services team and are provided with opportunities to strengthen their skills in accordance with the eight Career Readiness Competencies set forth by the National Association for Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Key Responsibilities:
*Embrace and respect cultural differences and facilitate a supportive, welcoming, and inclusive environment
*Promote and talk about Career Services and the services offered to students, alumni and employers
*Provide undergraduate and graduate students constructive feedback on their cover letters, resumes, LinkedIn profiles
*Possibly serve as a Peer Instructor for IDS 106 - Career Choice
*Greet/assist students at the Career Resource Hub or Career Services front desk
*Connect students to appropriate resources as well as referring them to additional services and resources to address needs beyond the resume and cover letter
*Facilitate presentations and workshops across the university to a wide variety of audiences on various career development topics
*Assist Career Services staff with events and programs in different capacities
*May be asked to participate in marketing promotions such as videos and photoshoots
*Utilize a variety of technology platforms to complete position responsibilities (Zoom, Microsoft Word, Teams, Hire-A-Redbird/Symplicity)
*Positively represent the Career Services to students, employers, and other constituents
*Complete other office duties and projects as assigned
*Adhere to all office and university policies and procedures

Pay Rate

$15.25/hour


Required Qualifications

*Must be a current Illinois State student university student and must be in good academic and disciplinary standing at time of application & throughout employment
*Must be able to commit to work for at least two consecutive semesters
*Must be available to work up to 15 hours a week, extra hours might be available depending upon scheduled department events and presentations
*Must be available to work during some evening and weekend hours
*Must understand what it means to provide excellent customer service
*Ability to adapt to the everchanging work environment
*Experience in, or willingness to develop, presentation skills
*Must be able to work effectively as a member of a team
*Must have problem solving skills and ability to refer students to appropriate resources
*Must maintain confidentiality of student information
*All CAs must be available for Career Ambassador Training, which is scheduled before classes begin on January 9, 2025 and end on January 10, 2025. Additional training activities will be held throughout each semester.

Between the hours 8 am - 6 pm Mon - Fri

Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held.

International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work more when the university is not in session.
