POSITION TITLE: Research Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

A research technician position is available in the Andrew Ward laboratory which focuses on structure-based vaccine design for viral pathogens. The person filling this position will be primarily responsible for supporting ongoing investigations within the laboratory, led by the principal investigator, staff scientists, and postdoctoral associates. Details of Dr. Ward's laboratory, ongoing research projects, and recent publications can be found at ward.scripps.edu.

Duties will include molecular cloning, expression, purification and characterization of recombinant proteins, isolation of antibodies from human/animal serum and analysis via electron microscopy. The position will include electron microscopy training. Ability to maintain electronic records (OneNote) across multiple projects in a clear and organized manner and good time management skills are required. The research technician may be requested to present at internal meetings.

Job duties also include autoclaving and restocking supplies, reagent preparation, unboxing daily shipments, and other related tasks as assigned by the lab manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:



  • Work under general supervision
  • Ability to independently perform a wide variety of standard laboratory techniques/procedures.
  • May provide interpretation and initial analyses of results.
  • Basic ability to troubleshoot and modify procedures.
  • May assist in designing experiments to complete a research plan.

REQUIREMENTS:



  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline and at least 1 year of research experience in a laboratory (which could have been during undergraduate training).
  • Strong background in molecular biology and recombinant protein methods.


COMPENSATION:

The expected hiring range for this position is $18.67 to $24 per hour, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
