The Department of Psychological Science at University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking candidates in Industrial/Organizational psychology for TWO tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin on August 11th, 2025. The Department of Psychological Science is one of the most popular undergraduate majors on campus and has a strong history of excellence in undergraduate instruction. The anticipated salary range is $81,000 - $85,000.

Primary Purpose of Department
The Department of Psychological Science ( PSYC) is an academic community of teachers/scholars and doctoral, master's, and undergraduate students that is engaged in advancing the discovery, dissemination, and application of knowledge in traditional areas of psychology in general and applied areas of psychology in particular. The Department of Psychological Science seeks to provide quality undergraduate education and to attain national and international recognition for research and graduate training in Health Psychology and Organizational Sciences.
We strive to achieve our mission in order to:
- Prepare students for careers in science and professional practice in Health Psychology and Organizational Science;
- Advance basic and applied psychological research; and
- Build connections with and make contributions that benefit our local community.
The candidate will be expected to teach in both the department's undergraduate program and the I/O M.A. program. The I/O M.A. program is an evening program designed for working professionals, and primarily serves students who are already working in HR-related positions or are transitioning to HR- or I/O-related careers. Our faculty typically participate in the Organizational Science Ph.D. program, an interdisciplinary program that includes faculty from the departments of Psychological Science, Management, Communication Studies, and Sociology

The Department of Psychological Science, which has one of the most popular undergraduate majors on campus, offers a BS degree and MA degrees in general and industrial/organizational psychology. The department is also the administrative home for the Health Psychology PhD program and provides substantial support to the Organizational Science PhD program. The Department also houses the Biobehavioral Core Lab, a shared research facility for the collection, processing, and analysis of biological specimens. Department faculty and students collaborate with scholars across the university, including the College of Health and Human Services, the Belk College of Business, and the Cato College of Education.

As the largest and most academically diverse college at UNC Charlotte, the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences houses 15 departments, 18 interdisciplinary programs, and 6 applied centers. We offer a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs with extensive honors and early-entry options. Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum and instructional development, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The candidate will be expected to teach in both the department's undergraduate program and the I/O M.A. program. Required qualifications: A PhD degree in Psychology or in a related field; an established program of research as evidenced by publications and/or external funding. Finalists will be asked to discuss how their teaching practices engage, include, and eliminate barriers to learning for UNC Charlotte students, and how their educational approach helps increase the engagement and success of all students regardless of their entry pathway into the university.
Minimum Experience/Education
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
Preferred qualifications: A potential for or demonstrated record of external funding for research; evidence of teaching effectiveness in courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. We are open to candidates with research interests in any area within the realm of I/O Psychology. However, for at least one position (this position is part of a two-position recruitment), we will prioritize candidates with teaching and research interests in industrial/personnel psychology topics broadly, including measurement/psychometrics, talent acquisition, and talent management.
