Position Overview

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education and Human Development, University of Minnesota, invites applications for Education Program Coordinator in Learning Technologies. The Learning Technologies (LT) program area engages in research, teaching, and development regarding the integration, teaching, and design of technology-based environments for PK-12, business, community, and online learning settings. This is a full-time, 10-month, non-tenure-track position in a highly regarded college of a major urban research university. Located in the culturally diverse cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, the University of Minnesota offers unique opportunities for research and participation in diverse cultural communities.

The individual hired will be appointed to a full-time, 10-month, annually-renewable position as a during academic year 2024-25. This position is immediately available with an anticipated start date of January 2025. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Annual renewals are contingent upon a successful performance review, continuing need for the position, and availability of funds.

This position will direct and coordinate the Learning Technologies program area's initial licensure programs and courses related to PK-12 technology integration; supervise instructors and personnel; provide leadership in the innovative use of learning technologies; work with CEHD's Office of Teacher Education (OTE) and individual teacher licensure programs and initiatives to develop and update curricula; lead and facilitate external accreditation processes; support the growth and development of the learning technologies program; and teach courses. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Job Responsibilities

Program Coordination (40%)

  • Lead the coordination of 15+ course sections for CI 5307 Technology for Teaching and Learning throughout the fall, spring, and summer semesters for 10+ content-area specific cohorts of initial teaching licensure students, including;
    • Scheduling courses and monitoring enrollments
    • Interviewing and hiring instructors who meet Minnesota's Professional Educator and Licensing Standards Board (PELSB) and Higher Learning Commission (HLC) qualifications.
    • Supervising and mentoring instructors (graduate students, faculty, community faculty, etc.) who are teaching CI 5307 course sections.
    • Collaborating with licensure programs in other program areas to ensure that CI 5307 complements and extends methods courses and field experience curricula
    • Lead and facilitate national and state review and accreditation processes, including required PELSB evaluations of all teacher educators every 3 years
    • Manage classroom spaces and coordinate classroom technology needs for instructors in the LT program area including updating university-owned devices and applications for student use
    • Coordinate technology-related purchases and actively manage classroom technologies for the LT program area in collaboration with department and university staff

Curriculum Development and Teaching (40%)

  • Lead and update CI 5307 and related curricula development in consultation with the Office of Teacher Education (OTE) and licensure staff in other licensure areas, in accordance with PELSB criteria and standards.
  • Teach a minimum of 8-9 credits per academic year (across fall, spring semesters) of CI 5307 courses and other courses as needed by the program area, dependent on expertise, experience, and PK-12 licensure credentials
  • Support development and coordination of Learning Technologies curricula, courses, programs, certificates, and degrees

Service and Administration (20%)

  • Represent LT and engage in collaborations pertaining to preservice teacher licensure programs within the department and with the Office of Teacher Education (OTE)
  • Serve as the LT representative on OTE's monthly LPL-OTE workgroup and at its annual summit
  • Serve as the LT program area coordinator (PAC) and participate in PAC committee meetings at the department level as part of program area rotation
  • Provide oversight and contribute to LT marketing and promotion efforts
  • Assist with various other LT program area administrative and service tasks as needed.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • An earned Masters in Instructional Design, Learning Technologies, Learning Sciences, Educational Technology, Teacher Education, Educational Psychology, or a closely related field
  • Familiarity with basic and content-specific technologies for teaching and learning
  • Familiarity with Minnesota Department of Education's related initiatives and PELSB's processes
  • Minimum of three years of teaching and/or administrative experience in Pk-12 and/or higher education settings
  • Demonstrated experience of innovative technology use to support teaching and learning
  • Ability to develop and deliver courses in ways that effectively account for a variety of diverse backgrounds, communities, identities, and abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of a commitment to the development of learning materials or environments
  • Evidence of a commitment to technology integration in educational settings
  • Evidence of leadership in the innovative use of technology to facilitate teaching and learning
  • Experience in teaching within blended and/or completely online environments
  • Experience providing professional learning to PK-12 educators about technology integration
  • Evidence of service to professional organizations
  • An earned doctorate in Instructional Design, Learning Technologies, Learning Sciences, Educational Technology, Teacher Education, Educational Psychology, or a closely related field is required for appointment as a Lecturer.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $55,000 - $70,000 a year; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
