Laboratory Research Technician

The Department of Surgery, Surgical Oncology Division is seeking a Laboratory Research Technician for a pancreatic cancer laboratory with a focus on translational research, which includes culturing and expanding T cells and organoids from pancreatic tumor tissue. The incumbent will collect patient samples and process human blood and tissue samples for freezing and/or scientific studies. Job requirements include: proficient in aseptic/sterile technique, freezing/thawing cells, cell culture, and flow cytometry. Handling and processing human blood for PBMC isolation is required, and candidate will be involved in weekly specimen collection. Able to work with mice and rats and learn to perform medication administration, survival surgeries, and specimen collection is ideal. Other responsibilities include: ordering laboratory supplies, properly disposing of chemicals, freezer maintenance, laboratory upkeep, and other tasks as needed. Candidate must be willing to work with mice and rats and learn to perform medication administration, survival surgeries, and specimen collection (blood and tissue). Preferred education and in medical sciences and work experience in laboratory research.


Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.


Essential Functions

Sterile technique, specimen processing, writing, speaking and reading English required; excellent computer/database skills. Working with cell cultures and flow cytometry. Will be responsible for general laboratory upkeep: ordering supplies, discarding reagents, and other tasks as needed.


Physical Effort

Frequent standing and walking. Lifting of laboratory supplies.
