Purpose of position

The Operations Dispatching Manager role at Canadian Pacific Kansas City offers an outstanding chance to work in transportation and shipping operations. This position is crucial for ensuring smooth and safe train movement, contributing to the flow of goods and services. With our operations relocating to Kansas City, MO in summer 2024, this role allows you to be part of a bold transition and expansion effort.

Position description

  • Dispatch train and engineering movements on the railroad in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Issue necessary track authorities to safely move trains across the railroad, ensuring detailed execution.
  • Provide track authorities for the protection of engineering personnel, maintaining strict safety standards.
  • Record information as required by the railroad and federal government, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Inform the Director of Dispatching about overall operations of trains and any delays, enabling a timely resolution.
  • Issue necessary Track Bulletins to protect trains and engineering personnel.
  • Ensure the timely movement of cars when billed, reporting any delayed car movement to the Director Dispatching for immediate action.
  • Assist in investigations of train accidents and personal injuries when required, showcasing a dedication to safety and accountability.
  • Align with all rules, office procedures, and Transportation Health and Safety Plan requirements, encouraging a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Communicate proficiently with individuals at all levels of the organization, ensuring effective and clear collaboration.

Position requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • One to three years of experience in Transportation or Train Operations preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of General Code of Operating Rules, Timetables, Operations Supervisor Manuals, and Notices, demonstrated by passing required exams.
  • Previous Train Dispatcher or comparable experience preferred.
  • Ability to become familiar with train operations and associated rules, demonstrating a keen understanding of the transportation sector.
  • Capability to form a good understanding of the physical characteristics of the railroad.
  • Consistent record to analyze rapidly and make quick, sound decisions in fast-paced situations.
  • Computer literacy with the ability to master computerized train control applications.
  • Willingness to work shifts as assigned, including nights, weekends, and holidays, showing flexibility and dedication.
  • Strong communication skills for clear and effective interactions.
  • Good color vision required for accurate signal and track management.

Medical Requirements:

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
