How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:

In collaboration with the leaders of Marketing and Planning functions, create and execute enterprise-wide Corporate Communication plans that: Achieve strategic priorities and targeted growth and financial objectives by building on awareness and preference of the Carilion brand priority markets and supporting the launch of new services and programs.

  • Lead development and execution of a proactive, integrated multi-channel communications strategy that utilizes data analysis, market intelligence and customer insights and is aligned and integrated with marketing plans to drive organizational and CMP goals and align with brand guidelines. With other CMP leaders, drive collaboration and cross-functional accountability across the department. Track results to ensure continuous improvement and desired outcomes.
  • Protect and enhance the reputation of Carilion through development and implementation of communications strategies to proactively and reactively manage internal and external communications needs related to potential crises and business-critical issues. Provide strategic communications counsel and support to the organization and senior leadership on these topics.
  • Position Carilion and its leadership as local/regional experts on medical health, business and community issues through proactive communication and earned media. Lead development and execution of thought leadership programs that elevate the reputation of our brand and key leaders.
  • Lead a team of high-performing highly engaged communications professionals to help deliver Carilion strategic objectives and KPI's.
  • Oversee executive and internal communications to increase employee engagement and grow understanding of the organization's strategic goals and commitment to mission, vision and values.
  • Establishes, maintains and evaluates communications vendor business relationships. Oversees request for proposal process and negotiates and manages vendor contracts.
  • Maintain understanding and compliance of external legal and regulatory related to healthcare communication as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Maintains professional affiliations, serves in the community, and participates in professional activities appropriate to responsibility scope. Acts as a Carilion brand ambassador in the community.
  • Contributes to the development of departmental budgets. Determines the most effective allocation of Communications resources and manages Communications revenues and expenses. Utilizes effective strategies for ongoing cost containment that reflect good stewardship to the organization.
What We Require:

Education: Master's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field required, or a combination of a bachelor's degree and experience may be considered.

Experience: Ten years demonstrated management and leadership experience in public relations, corporate communications, or a related area of management. Demonstrated strategic partner with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgement and strong operational focus. Must be a well-organized and self directed individual who is politically savvy and highly collaborative. Must relate to people at all levels of an organization and possess excellent written and oral English communication skills. Must have excellent facilitation skills and be able to negotiate problem solving and effective conflict resolution. Must be an excellent role model with the ability to serve in multiple roles including as an educator, mentor and coach to leaders and employees.. Must maintain poise under pressure. Must be capable of quickly assessing priorities in high stakes situations and inspiring a team to take decisive action to solve challenges. Experience in leadership of teams or projects beyond a department level required. Health care experience preferred but not required.
