Job Information

The Department of Teaching and Learning at Florida International University is seeking adjunct instructors to teach courses offered within the department curriculum.

  • Utilizes Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for use in communication, assignments, and grading.
  • Attending training for Canvas LMS, if necessary.
  • Teaching in face to face or online modalities, depending on the course.
  • Creates, reviews, and disseminates syllabus for course.
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional strategies to engage students, including cooperative and experiential learning.
  • Coordinates coursework with Program Leader, Discipline Lead, and/or Department Chair.
  • Evaluates student performance promptly and accurately based on departmental and course rubrics.
  • Submits textbook information though course adoption process by the deadline provided by the Department.
  • Maintains records of student attendance, involvement, and progress through Canvas LMS.
  • Facilitates class instruction and teaches assigned class content in accordance with the Learning Objectives that are developed by the Department.
  • Responds to students and Departmental correspondence promptly.
  • Communicates with students outside of class to provide supplementary instruction, when necessary.
  • Ensures that all course materials are available to the student in Canvas LMS.
  • Inputs final grades into the Panthersoft System by the required due date.
  • Adhere to the FIU Faculty Handbook Requirements.
  • Participates in required activities for evaluations of their teaching.
  • Complete required evaluating teaching activities in Panther 180.
  • Able to attend meetings, if necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in the Academic Field in which they intend to teach.

  • Prior experience teaching at the university level (can be as a teaching/research assistant) and/or at least five years in K-12 setting.

  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Exhibits a commitment for promoting quality education at the elementary and secondary levels to preservice and in-service teachers and professionals within a culturally and linguistically diverse community.

  • Is punctual and detail oriented with a demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks.

  • Demonstrates a high level of self-discipline and self-motivation.

Desired Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in academic field in which they intend to teach or related field with appropriate background in education. Experience teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels to individuals from K-20 settings.

  • Expertise in teaching experience in culturally and linguistically diverse settings.

  • Experience in teaching in an online modality.
