QC Technician / Third Shift

We are currently seeking a QC Technician to work from our manufacturing facility located in Kings Mountain, NC. The QC Technician performs routine in-process and finished product quality control tests to maintain product quality and food safety to provided specifications. Documents all levels of testing and work completed. Keeps appropriate management personnel informed of quality or food safety issues when they occur. This position is scheduled to work Mon-Friday: 10:00 PM - 06:30 PM

Key Responsibilities:

* Ability to stay on feet for prolonged periods of day collecting samples, testing, following up and actions, and engaging with the overall team to maintain communication and understanding.
* Maintains documentation of all tests, audits, and tasks completed in specified locations.
* Communicates directly with all appropriate associates regarding test results and corrective actions as needed.
* Works with and communicates with peers in a manner that shows professionalism, tact, and understanding.
* Responsible for necessary product quality attribute testing and food safety verification practices outlined in standard work, lab checklists, electronic triggers or other similar communications.
* Verifies sanitation effectiveness through pre-op inspections that includes visual inspection of manufacturing equipment and ATP testing practices to validate visual inspection.
* Adheres to a specific frequency of product testing. The test schedule can vary pending specific quality issues that may arise.
* Keeps laboratory, equipment and supplies clean, stocked and organized.
* Identifies and assists with product non-conformances issues including placing product on hold, investigating impact, and most probably cause(s) for non-conformance.
* Assist with lab equipment calibration including auditing calibration records, performing calibration and updating necessary records.
* Generates shift report, providing detail to events and issues or opportunities identified during the production shift
* Completes routine audits (daily & monthly) to verify facility maintenance of GMP and sanitation requirements both during active and non-active production time frames.
* Provide technical guidance to Packers or other Utz Associates that provide support during various times of the year.
* This position has direct impact on food safety at Utz Quality Foods. The next most senior members of the department are trained and qualified to substitute for absences and vacations. Where similar positions are staffed at multiple local facilities, trained personnel may be temporarily transferred to a different site to cover absences.

Non Essential Functions:

* Works with management and fellow associates to ensure Food Safety programs are followed.
* Reports food, office or operational safety problems to a supervisor or manager for initiating action.
* Performs other duties as assigned that will impact and support the overall outcome of the company and department objectives.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Minimum high school graduate or equivalent.
* Good working knowledge of basic mathematics
* Must be safety conscious and accurate in working in lab environment during the preparation of chemical solutions and test samples.
* Mechanical aptitude/knowledge helpful.
* Good organizational and communication skills required; must be able to work with all levels of associates.
* Basic computer skills necessary for inputting and summarizing quality control data.
* Required to wear non-slip shoes and appropriate personal protective equipment.

Working Conditions:

* Manufacturing environment with a dedicated lab space with regulated temperature.
* Position will require an ability stay on feet for prolonged periods (4hrs+) auditing floor, collecting samples and other necessary quality tasks.
* Daily lifting and/or ability to move up to 10 pounds, occasionally up to 35 pounds.
* Manual dexterity and coordination are required to enter data and other required notations in various electronic devices or documented on paper records
* Personal Protective Equipment usage where required.

* Responsible to follow all safety rules and work safely at all times.
* Responsible to report unsafe equipment and practices to supervisor.
* Must adhere to all Good Manufacturing Practices.

  • Knowledge of safe operating practices involved in the use of lock-out/tag-out programs and food safety.
  • Experience with general mechanic tools (Allen wrenches, screw drivers, etc.).
