The Youth Choir Director for Dowd Memorial Chapel is a Contingent Worker position to direct the choir at the 9:30 am Mass, and weekly choir rehearsals. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: Directs congregational music services.
  • The Choir Director will work collaboratively with the Director of Music for Dowd Chapel.
  • Will direct the youth choir for the Sunday Mass as well as Holidays of Obligation.
  • Will demonstrate respect for the Roman Catholic faith traditions and worship.
  • Will develop the Youth Choir Members' musical skills and abilities including vocal music technique, rudimentary music reading skills and develop part - singing.

Oversees and supports safe and effective provision of services

  • Requires employees to adhere to policies related to safety and boundaries with service recipients.
  • Attends safety and abuse risk management training as assigned.
  • Provides employees with on-going supervision and training related to safety and abuse risk.
  • Responds quickly and confidentially to reports of suspicious or inappropriate behavior.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to motivate congregation to actively participate in music activities.
  • Ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner while maintaining necessary degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to adapt responses to situations while maintaining procedural and regulatory integrity.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various campus and community partners and Pastoral Team members.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook and Word.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience leading worship music required.
  • A degree in vocal music performance or vocal music education, working towards such a degree or past relevant music experience.
  • Experience in liturgical/sacred music.
  • Comprehension of liturgy and worship practices.
  • Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed required.
  • Previous teaching of youth a plus.
